How I Chose My Own Wedding Coordinator
So here goes my search for my coordinator!
Not having a coordinator for my wedding day was not an option. If my family wanted me to be a FULL BRIDEZILLA they would make me do it without one. BUT a 250 person sit-down formal wedding event?….
There is no way that is happening without someone there to make it all go smoothly. Thank god I didn't have to convince the powers that be that I needed one because it was actually REQUIRED by the wedding venue. A lot of the more popular venues in Minneapolis require wedding coordinators for the booking because they know what happens when there isn't one and it's not something they want to deal with. As a wedding professional in Toronto, I think it does a disservice to your clients when the venue thinks they can do it all themselves.
Coordination! What is it?
A wedding coordinator is basically your wedding superhero. They take care of all the boring stuff like timelines, vendor drama, and making sure everything runs like clockwork. They’re your go-to for handling the behind-the-scenes chaos, from dealing with caterers to solving last-minute meltdowns. They keep things on track so you don’t have to stress about ANYTHING. Think of them as your personal wedding boss—making sure everything looks fabulous while you just show up and slay. At Events by Fay this is billed as “Event Management” but it is essentially a month-of coordination gig.

The selection process was pretty easy because I know what I’m looking for!
I know what I want my clients to feel when they meet with me for a consultation and I wanted that same feeling. I truly believe that when you are choosing your coordinator you HAVE TO VIBE!
I am in your face for a lot of your wedding day. I'm cueing different parts of the schedule, I am asking all the questions that vendors have fed me (If I can't figure it out myself) and MOST IMPORTANTLY, I’m sending you and your family down the aisle!
If you can't kiki with me, laugh at my jokes or trust me to get all up in your business when your bustle comes undone while you're dancing and I need to pin it back in place. Then why would you hire me??
I met with three companies.
The first was big, flashy, had the right instagram feed, the right team, lots of great testimonials but felt like a little too much of a corporation for me. The next was a family friend's recommendation that I felt like I had to pursue but I didn't click right away with her energy. That's why when I met Cari and we clicked right away, I knew I found my girl! We immediately bonded over our Jewish background, our paths into the wedding industry, her amazing office space with a neon sign in the background. We laughed, we joked, and we connected on our 30-45 min call. That's it! I didn't need to see her extensive portfolio, I didn't need to speak to past clients or see testimonials, I didn't need to know that everyone in the wedding world in Minneapolis loved her (Which was an added bonus when I started reaching out to vendors and they all told me I was in the best hands!) All I needed to know is that I had a good time with her, we placed importance on the same things, and she was going to take care of me. Oh and did I mention she comes with Chuppahs? That's just the cherry on the cake!

She also told me she wasn’t abandoning me during the time leading up into my wedding.
That was huge for me! As a destination bride I needed to know that I could “fact check” my work. I wanted to know that someone on the ground would be able to confirm that the vendors I was finding were reliable! So I would find a couple of people I liked and check in with her with who she liked to work with! It also made me feel good that she and the vendors had already had an established relationship so that on wedding day they could jump right in.
